FORMER forensic crime scene investigator turned singer-songwriter Kevin Sullivan returns with his new single, No Saxophone – a song full of heart, with one hell of an ending.
Inspired by a chance meeting with iconic INXS band member Kirk Pengilly, the song takes the bass and the brass for a walk, as Kevin brings sax to the country.
“I was lucky enough to meet Kirk – he’s such an incredible multi-instrumentalist, but his sax solos always stood out for me. I remember thinking it’s a shame there’s no saxophone in a country band, and before I knew it, I’d written the whole song.”
No Saxophone is the third single from Kevin’s album Belonging, released in 2018. The song has become a crowd favourite with Kevin’s fans, and is already one of his most requested tracks on radio. “People just love this song,” explains Kevin, “Not only because it has a fantastic saxophone solo, but because it has a great vibe and it’s also a lot of fun to play.”
No Saxophone will be released on June 7 around the country and launched at the KLC Gold Country Music Festival (Kiama Loves Country) on the June long weekend at the following venues:
Friday 7th June 2019 Gerringong Bowling Club 8pm – 11pm
Saturday 8th June 2019 Kiama Golf Club 8pm – 11pm
The track tells the story of the various musicians and their instruments vying for a position in a country band. It has a catchy, foot tapping country tempo, building up to the saxophone’s triumphant rebellion.
“I hope this song encourages people to have a broader appreciation of country music, which is a growing, breathing, exciting genre of music,” points out Kevin. “Of course there’s a saxophone in a country band, and every other type of instrument, just as it should be.” Kevin Sullivan has already had a big year, travelling to Nashville, Tennessee, in April to record with award winning producer Matt Fell, then returning to support Lee Kernaghan, Travis Collins, the McClymonts and other artists at the inaugural Big Country Festival in Berry, NSW, in May. Most recently, Kevin hosted and performed with the legendary Bill Chambers at a house concert on the south coast of NSW.
Kevin will also be appearing at a number of festivals and venues around the country including the upcoming Mildura Country Music Festival and Murrumbidgee Country Music Festival, both in September 2019, and the KLC Gold Country Music Festival (Kiama Loves Country), all in the lead up to Tamworth 2020.
