Kiama Jamberoo Fortnightly Community Music Activities

Rehearsals take place at Jamberoo Chapel Soundspace at Uniting Church hall, 11 Wyalla Road, Jamberoo for the following group.

A reminder that 2019 membership for participation is $25 and due now.

The fee entitles musicians to participate in any or all the musical groups. There is no need to complete a membership form if you did so last year just deposit your $25 to the account clearly marked with your name. New members can request a form at any of the rehearsal sessions or by email. 

KJ String Orchestra  Starts up again 6:30 – 8pm Thursday 7th February 2019. Music from the Classical Period is the specialty of this group. This term some of the pieces we are rehearsing are Elgar’s Chanson de Matin, A duo for two solo strings and string orchestra by Johann Michel, more movements from Grieg’s Holberg Suite and an exhilarating arrangement of Brahms’ Hungarian Dance.

Wood & Wind – Combined Chamber Group (Strings/Wind) Starts back officially on Thursday 31st January 2019 but there will be an earlier get together on Thursday 17th January for those who would like a look at the music and a run through. Pamela Harris directs this group which is an eclectic combination of strings, flutes, guitars and mandolins and occasional drum. New players welcome and this group aims to play accessible arrangements. The theme this term is French Classical & Popular in preparation for the Autumn social musical event in March.

Folk Music Session for playing folk tunes or songs from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, America or from anywhere that you find a tune or a song appealing to play or sing. Wayne Millar leads both this Folk and the Bluegrass group. Next rehearsal is Wednesday 9th January 6:30-8:30pm.  

Bluegrass and Old Time Session accommodates musicians that are looking for a bluegrass session where the tunes are played at a slow pace- open to all levels including beginners. For the more experienced there is a chance to play at a faster pace after the tunes have been played slowly. Next rehearsal is Wednesday 16th January 6:30-8:30pm. Chapel Consort recommences on Friday evening 8th January at 6:30pm and meets fortnightly at Griff Music Studio in Shoalhaven Heads.The group welcomes singers and instrumentalists who are interested in classical, sacred and early music. Vale Glenis Dix 

We would like to remember Glenis Dix who was a stalwart violinist / conductor with South Coast Orchestra and a valued contributor to musical life in our region. Glenis died early on the morning of 21st December of a cerebral haemorrhage. Our greatest sympathy goes to her husband Warwick, two children and their children as well as friends far and near who have expressed their sorrow at this sudden tragedy.
