Saturday 1st at St Patricks Church Berry & Sunday 2nd December at Nowra School of Arts,Lydian Singers present Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass – The Morning Star . The work was written by this composer for double SATB chorus and string orchestra. There will also be a selection of traditional carols and There Shall A Star from Jacob Come Forth from Mendelssohn’ Christus. This weekend’s concerts will be the last opportunity to see the inimitable Lesley Challender directing. WithLesley as musical director of the choir 2006-2014 and 2016-2018 , the Lydians Singers have flourished. Her great musical expertise and sense of fun will be on display in this not-to-be-missed final concert. Sunday 16th December7:30pm Festival of Carols at Uniting Church Kiama. The theme this year is “Christmas through Music and Art”. The presentation will involve a community choir presenting stories and music which will accompany pictures depicting works of art illustrating the Christmas story. There will be an opportunity for the audience to join in with some familiar favourite carols too. Wendy Leatheam has directed the presentation to popular acclaim in previous years and the community choir is thrilled to welcome her back this year. Piano accompaniment provided by the accomplished Steve Leatheam.

Kiama Jamberoo Fortnightly Community Music Activities
Rehearsals take place at Jamberoo Chapel Sound space at Uniting Church hall, 11 Wyalla Road, Jamberoo for the following groups;
KJString Orchestra next rehearses on Thursday 29th November. Music from the Classical Period is the specialty of this group. Thisterm some of the pieces we are rehearsing are Elgar’s Chanson de Matin, Aduo for two solo strings and string orchestra by Johann Michel, more movements from Grieg’s Holberg Suite. There will not be a performance this term but we plan to do one in the new year.
Wood & Wind – Combined Chamber Group(Strings/Wind) had a promising start to the term with the introduction of some new pieces including Marche des Rois, The Huron Carol, Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella and The Earl of Salisbury Pavane. Rehearsals continue on Thursday 6th November at6:30pm. Pamela Harris directs this group which isan eclectic combination of strings, flutes, guitars and mandolins and occasional drum. New players welcome.
Folk Music Session for playing folk tunes or songs from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, America or from anywhere that you find a tune or a song appealing to play or sing. Wayne Millar leads both this Folk and the Bluegrass group. Next rehearsal is Wednesday 28th November 6:30-8:30pm.
Bluegrass and Old Time Session accommodates musicians that are looking for a bluegrass session where the tunes are played at as low pace- open to all levels including beginners. For the more experienced there is a chance to play at a faster pace after the tunes have been played slowly. Next rehearsal is Wednesday 5th December 6:30-8:30pm. Chapel Consort meets on Friday evenings fortnightly at Griff Music Studio in Shoalhaven Heads and the next rehearsal will be held at 6:15pm Friday 7thDecember. The group welcomes singers and instrumentalists who are interested in classical, sacred and early music. Community Choir for 5 weeks only culminating in Festival of Carols on Sunday16th December. The theme this year is “Christmas through Music and Art”. Choir Director Wendy Leatheam of Jamberoo is hoping for a good roll up of willing choristers to make up this community choir. She says anyone is welcome to come along and join the group. Remaining rehearsals are at 7:30pm Wednesday 28thNovember, 5th December and Saturday 15th December at 2:30pm.
