Coming up Musically
Saturday 17 November 7pm Joseph Tawadros AM, composer and virtuoso of the Oud, a Middle Eastern Lute is coming to Jamberoo . Now based in London, he starts a new music tour of Australia in October. His brother James, also a world-class musician will join him playing Middle Eastern percussive instruments. Together they present a thrilling mix of Middle Eastern, Jazz and traditional sounds with contemporary innovations.
There is only one performance scheduled on the South Coast and this will be an intimate evening of music and story telling in the historic chapel at Jamberoo Uniting Church, 11 Wyalla Rd. The Concert is at 7pm on Saturday 17th November 2018. Tickets $35 from https://www.trybooking.com/435884
Sunday 18 November 2pm Gerringong Music Club presents Narelle Yeo Soprano, David Miller on piano and Emma Sholl on flute.Enjoy a range of music by Bach, Delibes, Saint Saens and Strauss with some lighter music theatre by Bernstein and Bolcom. This will be the club’s final concert of the year.

Sunday 25 November 2pm Verna Lee (Harpist) and Alicia Crossley (Recorder) at Nowra School of Arts. Hosted by Music Shoalhaven, the program will consist of music on historical instruments (recorder and Baroque triple harp) as well as more modern repertoire (eg Debussy) for pedal harp and recorder. Kiama Jamberoo Fortnightly Community Music Activities
Rehearsals take place at Jamberoo Chapel Soundspace at Uniting Church hall, 11 Wyalla Road, Jamberoo for the following groups;
KJ String Orchestra next rehearses on Thursday 15 November . With some new music, it’s a good time to join. Music from the Classical Period is the specialty of this group. This term some of the pieces we are rehearsing are Elgar’s Chanson de Matin, A duo for two solo strings and string orchestra by Johann Michel, more movements from Grieg’s Holberg Suite. There will not be a performance this term but we plan to do one in the new year.
Wood & Wind – Combined Chamber Group (Strings/Wind) had a promising start to the term with the introduction of some new pieces including Marche des Rois, The Huron Carol, Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella and The Earl of Salisbury Pavane. Rehearsals continue on Thursday 22 November at the new time of 6:30pm. Pamela Harris directs this group which is an eclectic combination of strings, flutes, guitars and mandolins and occasional drum. New players welcome.
Folk Music Session for playing folk tunes or songs from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, America or from anywhere that you find a tune or a song appealing to play or sing. Wayne Millar leads both this Folk and the Bluegrass group. Next rehearsal is Wednesday 14th November 6:30-8:30pm.
Bluegrass and Old Time Session accommodates musicians that are looking for a bluegrass session where the tunes are played at a slow pace- open to all levels including beginners. For the more experienced there is a chance to play at a faster pace after the tunes have been played slowly. Next rehearsal is Wednesday 21 November 6:30-8:30pm. Chapel Consort meets on Friday evenings fortnightly at Griff Music Studio in Shoalhaven Heads and the next rehearsal will be held at 6:15pm Friday 23 November. The group welcomes singers and instrumentalists who are interested in classical, sacred and early music. Gareth Ward, Kiama’s member for NSW State Parliament has kindly offered to present a funding request on our behalf to the Premier.

Community Choir for 5 weeks only culminating in Festival of Carols on Sunday 16 December. The theme this year is “Christmas through Music and Art”. Choir Director Wendy Leatheam of Jamberoo is hoping for a good roll up of willing choristers to make up this community choir. She says anyone is welcome to come along and join the group. There will be 5 rehearsals only at 7:30pm on Wednesday nights beginning 14 November at Uniting Church Kiama.
