Saturday 7th July 7pm to 11pm Katandra presents The Big Swing at Gerringong Town Hall– Antoinette Raynal and the women’s choir are performing and partying with their friends the 16 piece “Village Big Band” and everyone is invited. Saturday 21st July Jamberoo Music Festival in various venues – exciting news for all musicians and music appreciators in Jamberoo and beyond. The village is getting its own music festival for the first time in many years. Its billed as a one-day boutique festival with over 100 musicians across 3 intimate venues. Come along to hear blues, roots, folk, rock, country and indi musicians. We’re all for cross pollinating genres of music so can’t wait to enjoy the lineup. In particular it’s great to see local musicians alongside national performers. This festival is all about participation so enter the busking competition, bring the family, enjoy the market stalls & street performers and support our local festival. Sunday 12th August 11am Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra presents Going on a Bear Hunt! at Nowra School of Arts. There will be a concert at 11am and another at 2pm – bring a blanket, cushion and a teddy and your children will meet the instruments of the orchestra and have a chance to try some out. Kiama Jamberoo Fortnightly Community Music Activities
Rehearsals take place at Jamberoo Chapel Soundspace at Uniting Church hall, 11 Wyalla Road, Jamberoo.
KJ String Orchestra has a break for winter holidays and starts rehearsals again on Thursday 26th July at 6:30pm. We’ll be starting a new program and players of all ages and abilities are welcome (if you’re not sure how you would go, call us for a chat!) Dal Oldham, our conductor continues with his entertaining and educational style.
SoundScape – Combined Chamber Group (Strings/Wind) next rehearses this Thursday 5th July at the new time of 6:15pm, we’ll
stop halfway for a cuppa and finish practise at 8pm. After that there will be a break for winter holidays. Rehearsals resume on 2nd August and Pam Harris will take on the musical direction for a new program which is rumoured to be latin inspired (Piazzola, Gardel, Tarrega??? there’s only one way to find out – come along and play)
Folk Music Session for playing folk tunes or songs from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, America or from anywhere that you find a tune or a song appealing to play or sing. Wayne Millar leads both this Folk and the Bluegrass group. Next rehearsal is next Wednesday 11th July 6:30-8:30pm. No break for the folk musicians!
Bluegrass and Old Time Session accommodates musicians that are looking for a bluegrass session where the tunes are played at a slow pace – open to all levels including beginners. For the more experienced there is a chance to play at a faster pace after the tunes have been played slowly. Next rehearsal is this Wednesday 4th July (how appropriate!) 6:30-8:30pm.
