Kiama Council invites applications for it August 2018 funding round of the Kiama Cultural Grants

The Kiama Cultural Grants objectives are to:

  • Support local artists in their development within the arts
  • Stimulate opportunities for participation and positive community connections
  • Improve community spirit and individual self-esteem and wellbeing
  • Encourage participants to explore and pursue positive arts experiences
  • Acknowledge and promotes cultural diversity ie cultural and linguistically diverse communities, young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, older people, people with a disability etc

Applications can be made for up to $3000

Projects funded in the February grants round were: 

Rock of Ages | Illawarra Youth Arts Project (iYAP)

The Illawarra Youth Arts Project (iYAP) is staging a regional premiere of the Broadway smash rock musical ‘Rock of Ages’.  To be held 12-15 July 2018 at The Pavilion Kiama. ‘Rock of Ages’ is built around classic rock songs from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of that decade.

Album Recording and Video Clip | The Water Runners

The Water Runners are a local band that have become well known in the Kiama area and beyond for their unique, high energy brand of original music that incorporates elements of bluegrass, country and traditional folk and draws on local themes and stories.  This project will help fund the creation of an album of original music that will include songs that highlight Kiama, its history and its people and a video clip that will help promote the music to a wider audience.  The local element of these resources will engage and inform the local community in a positive way, enhancing community pride and well-being.

Youth Arts Scholarship

The August funding round will also be accepting applications for the Kiama Youth Arts Scholarship

The aim of the Youth Arts Scholarships is to further the arts ambitions and futures of local young people aged 12 to 21 years.

Funding of up to $1000 is available
