Kiama Jamberoo Community Music Activities

New Term !! KJ String Orchestra is back on this Thursday 3rd May at 6 for 6:30pm start. This is a good time for string players who have been waiting on the sidelines to come along. Players of a range of abilities are welcome (if you’re not sure how you would go, call us for a chat!)  Dal, our conductor continues with his entertaining and educational style and for those who enjoy performing, there will be a matinee concert in the chapel on Saturday 30th June 2018 featuring highlights by the String Orchestra as well as some solo instrumental pieces -Save the Date.

SoundScape – Combined Chamber Group (Strings/Wind) next rehearses Thursday 10th May at 6 for 6:30pm start. Heather, the director and her able offsider Anne have provided the group with arrangements to suit a range of abilities including an original composition are now on the program. The group will continue as an eclectic ensemble of mandolins, strings and woodwind.

Folk Music Session for playing folk tunes or songs from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, America or from anywhere that you find a tune or a song appealing to play or sing. Wayne Millar leads both this Folk and the Bluegrass group. Next rehearsal is this Wednesday 2nd May 6:30-8:30pm.

Bluegrass and Old Time Session accommodates musicians that are looking for a bluegrass session where the tunes are played at a slow pace – open to all levels including beginners. For the more experienced there is a chance to play at a faster pace after the tunes have been played slowly. Next rehearsal is Wednesday 9th May 6:30-8:30pm. Coming up Musically

Saturday 20th May 11am & 2pm Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra presents Kids Proms Concerts at Nowra School of Arts. This organisation runs several groups for children and young people and can accommodate players at all stages of their musical journey. This concert is a chance to enjoy the groups’ enthusiasm and talent as well as meet the organisers if you have enquiries about joining. More info at

Sunday 21st May 2pm Gerringong Music Club presents Young Stars of the Future includes previous winners of the Gem Buck Award Stephanie Ryan and Luca and Amelie Ziino along with other talented young pianists and string players and a fine guitar duo. More info at

John D Johnston is a local Kiama violin maker and restorer, graduate of Newark School of Violin Making in Nottingham and established his business in 1980. He does all string repairs and bow rehairs. “Scientists Behaving Badly” is looking for a Pianist – This group are looking for a pianist to join them. The eclectic four fuse music from several genres and incorporate electronics to enhance. Katandra Women’s A Cappella Choir is starting up in Kiama led by Antoinette Raynal. It’s a refreshing and energetic format with repertoire from a wide range of musical styles. Nan Tien Temple in Wollongong is inviting performer expressions of interest for the Grand Opening of their Bridge and Buddha’s Light International Oceania Fellowship Conference on 27th-28th July 2018. They are keen to hear from musicians and folk dancers from many cultural backgrounds to exhibit Australia’s remarkable multicultural diversity. More info at

String Orchestra workshop in Bathurst 28th – 30th September 2018 closing date for registration 27th July 2018. This is for adult and older teenager string players of all ages to play, learn and connect with other musicians from far and wide.
