KCAN and 2017 | What’s in it for you?

Kiama Cultural ArtsHi all, I am now back on deck after my Christmas/New Year break.

As we roll into 2017 I’d like to have a chat about the Kiama Cultural Arts Network (KCAN)

KCAN is a place for Kiama artists (of all genres and across the whole local government area) to connect, share, promote, build relationships and a sense of community.

KCAN does this in a variety of ways:

Regular Artist Gatherings
The Gatherings are an informal get together to share a drink, some food and get to know each other. These are friendly, happy, relaxed events that occur approximately every three months throughout the year.

The Gatherings are held at Kiama’s Little Blowhole Art Bar on a Thursday evening from 5.30pm – 7.00pm (or longer if you choose to stay)

Dates will be posted on this blog and the KCAN facebook page.

Arts Biz Conference
This conference is held every two years at the Kiama Pavilion and is aimed at professional and semi professional artists. The conference is design to provide artists with access to information and support for the business side of their arts practice.

More information coming soon on the 2017 conference to be held in August

Blog Site and Facebook Page
KCAN’s social media arm provides artists with access to a range of information about arts based activities, events, projects and opportunities both locally and outside of the Kiama local government area.

If you wish to have something posted please email the relevant information (including pictures) to louisec@kiama.nsw.gov.au

If you have a poster or flyer, a jpg or gif version is preferred however PDF’s will be accepted.

I will post anything that promotes relevant, arts based; work, activities, events, sources of sustainability and achievements:

  • of artists living in Kiama
  • of artists who have lived in Kiama and still have connection here
  • that may positively impact artists living in Kiama
  • that may positively impact people living or visiting Kiama

The primary goals of the KCAN blog and FB page is to; build a sense of arts community in Kiama, keep Kiama based artists informed and promote Kiama based artists

Pete on WeaveWeave Artist Directory
Weave is available to Kiama and Shellharbour based artists and is a jointly funded project between Regional Arts NSW, Kiama and Shellharbour Councils.

Weave is an online directory that allows people seeking work from and information about artists to easily access information and contact details.

Weave provides the opportunity to:

  • direct people to your own website and /or social media accounts
  • summarise your skills and abilities, and
  • showcase a select range of your work (this include pictures, videos and sound clips)

The site is easily searchable according to location and/or arts genre.

To join here, simply complete the online form. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me via email or phone on 4232 0549

Community Engagement
As part of starting into 2017 I would love your feedback on KCAN, how it has or hasn’t worked for you and how we can improve things moving forward.

Completing this online survey with your honest feedback would be helpful in this process. The survey is anonymous and only takes a few minutes to complete (mostly tick boxes)

Access the survey here
