The Australia Council has revised the grants program in response to the 2015-16 budget measures.

Our grants program supports a diverse range of artists, artistic practice, organisations and arts activity. It is easier and simpler to apply for grants.

Area of practice based peer assessment of artistic merit and excellence, is central to grant decision making.


Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts

The arts of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people reflect the unique cultural heritage of the world’s oldest living culture.

The new grants program maintains Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander decision making on applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, groups and organisations.


Arts and Disability Funding

Dedicated funding is available to provide support for artists or groups who identify with disability. Click here for more information.

Applications for funding can be made through the Development Grant for Individuals and Groups, and Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups in the February 2016 round.

WARNING

The Australia Council for the Arts is warning people about a scam involving callers who claim to be from the Council offering grant money. The caller tells people they have grant money for them and they quote an application number, but to access the funds they must provide bank account details and personal information. The phone number the scammers are calling from is answered by a voice identifying as the “Australia Council”.

The Australia Council is also aware of several businesses purporting to offer information on government grants for a fee. This information is freely available from our website. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission provides further details on relevant companies operating these scams through its SCAM Watch website. Clients should check the SCAM Watch website to avoid paying for publicly available information. These are scams. The Australia Council does not seek people’s bank details over the phone.  Any calls of this nature should be reported to the police and to the Australia Council on (02) 9215 9000 or toll-free 1800 226 912 FREE.

Australia Council Grant Programs

Development Grants for Individuals and Groups – $5,000 – $25,000

2016 closing dates: Tuesday 2 February; Tuesday 7 June; Tuesday 4 October.

Our development grants fund a range of activities that benefit the careers of individual artists or groups. Examples of the activity this grant supports include professional skills development, showcase opportunities, forum/workshop attendance, residencies, mentorships, arts market attendance and exploration.

Artists with Disability Funding

Artists with disability funding provides support for artists and groups who identify with disability. For 2016, applications close on 2 February 2016. There is only one closing date for this funding round in 2016. Applications will be available again in 2017.

 

Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups – $10,000 – $50,000

2016 closing dates: midnight, Tuesday 2 February; midnight, Tuesday 7 June; midnight, Tuesday 4 October.

Our arts projects program funds a range of activities that deliver benefits to the arts sector and wider public, including national and international audiences. Examples of activities this grant supports include the creation of new work, creative development, touring, festivals, productions, exhibitions, publishing, recording and market development activity.

Arts Projects – Organisations – $10,000 – $100,000

2016 closing dates: midnight, Tuesday 2 February; midnight, Tuesday 7 June; midnight, Tuesday 4 October.

Examples of activities this grant supports include the creation of new work, creative development, touring, festivals, productions, exhibitions, publishing, recording and market development activity.

Fellowships – $80,000

2016 closing date to be confirmed.

Australia Council Fellowships support outstanding, established artists’ creative activity for a period of up to two years.

 

International Residencies

The International Residencies Program enables the artistic development of individual artists and groups by brokering and offering high quality residency experiences.

Closing: 2 February 2016. Please note technical support will not be available after 5pm on the closing date.

Four Year Funding – Organisations – $75,000 – $300,000 p.a.

Four-Year funding for organisations replaces the previously suspended six year funding program. To read more about the revised grants model click here.

Four-Year funding is for arts organisations of significant regional, national or international standing. Organisations must demonstrate artistic achievement and ambition with a compelling five year strategic vision.

Government Programs Delivered by the Australia Council

Playing Australia: Regional Performing Arts Touring Fund

This program supports costs associated with a national tour of performing arts to reach regional and remote communities across Australia.2016 closing dates: midnight, Tuesday 2 February; midnight, Tuesday 7 June; midnight, Tuesday 4 October.

 

Contemporary Music Touring Program – Up to $15,000

This program supports national touring activity undertaken by Australian musicians performing original contemporary music. It provides travel support for artists and their manager for tours in Australia that include performances in regional and remote areas.

2016 closing dates: midnight, Tuesday 2 February; midnight, Tuesday 4 October.

 

ArtStart

As of May 2015 this program is no longer offered. There will be no future application rounds for this program.

ArtStart supported a career or business development strategy for recent arts graduates. It included support for services, resources, skills development and equipment to help develop a sustainable career in the arts.

 

Festivals Australia: Regional Festivals Project Fund

As of 1 July 2015 this program is administered by the Ministry for the Arts.

This program supports costs to produce and present arts activities or projects at festivals in regional and remote Australia.

 

Visions of Australia: Regional Exhibition Touring Fund

As of 1 July 2015 this program is administered by the Ministry for the Arts.

This program supports costs to develop and tour exhibitions of cultural material that has historic, scientific, design, social or artistic significance. This funding will support Australian cultural material to reach regional and remote communities across Australia.
